Hugh Jackman's trainer for the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine was none other than Michael Ryan. When you are unfamiliar with Mr. Ryan, he has been approximately the bodybuilding community for more than 25 years.
Who Is Hugh Jackman's Trainer?
Michael Ryan is not new to the celebrity training business; Ryan has trained many A-list Hollywood Superstars. Celebrities like... Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg, John Elway, Shannon Sharpe, Terrell Owens and most, whenever not all of the NFL Denver Broncos (during their two championship seasons.)
Ryan used to work for Muscle Media magazine and Experimental Applied Sciences. Bill Phillips, author of the book, "Body for Life", owned both companies, since of his connexion with Phillips, he made an excellent background in nutrition.
Ryan also has all the certifications and credentials that you would expect from someone who calls himself... "Trainer to the Stars."
The Goals for Hugh Jackman's Trainer
Michael Ryan is an old-school bodybuilder. That means that he believes in training difficult and eating 5 to 6 meals per day. The studio desired Jackman to come in 10 to 15 pounds more muscular than the last time he played Wolverine. This is the daunting task given to Hugh Jackman's trainer.
I recently saw some of the photographs and the trailer for X-Men Origins Wolverine. I must say that Jackman put forth the time and effort into getting in incredible physical conditioning. It looks to me, that he added at least 15 pounds of difficult muscle mass to his body.
What struck me as funny in doing the research for this article was that Michael Ryan refers to Hugh Jackman's legs as... "Chicken Legs." Moreover, in some of the photographs, I see what he means! It is not an easy job to be a celebrity trainer; many times, you have to put up with the whining and complaining of your "Star" client. However, one thing is for sure Michael Ryan as Hugh Jackman's trainer was certainly well paid.
