Some years back Google announced that they have plans to offer internet access to people living in Africa and other parts of the world. The objective was for them to offer high speed internet via satellite broadband to Africa and other parts of the developing world, with roll outs starting in 2010.
The use of mobile phones in the developing world is growing quite rapidly, 03b a network systems company decided as a way of tapping into this market that they would produce 16 satellites. Google along with a number of collaborates such as Liberty Global and HSBC, have decided that they would like to take into Africa’s internet market, by making internet access to Africans more reliable and faster. In 2008, with around 100 million internet users in Africa, with less than 5% of the African population with internet access, which is somewhat lower than other continents; having high speed internet access in Africa would encourage social, economic and educational growth in the developing world; encouraging more content which is locally generated online.
