Wikipedia development

As some of you may have become aware, Google has announced that later in 2008 they will be going forward with the project known as "Knol". Knol will be a sort of hybrid between about.com and wikipedia.com. Like wikipedia, there will be entries for nearly every topic, place, person, there is that means anything in the world. Unlike wikipedia, knol will be solely published by one individual and then that individual will be allowed to accept new entries for that given topic, edit and change the topic, and be credited for writing the entry.

Wikipedia about it

Wikipedia has become one of those odd internet sites that have evolved into a phenomenon. Alas, some companies don’t like what is written about them. Unless you have been living offline, you probably know about Wikipedia. The site is a giant information source where the content is written and provided by posters. The community content site is open to just about anyone that wants to post with one major exception. People cannot post if they have a conflict of interest in regard to the information they are providing.

Wikipedia SEO

Many of you likely have tried to place your website link on a Wikipedia page. What most probably happened is a zealous Wikipedia editor likely removed your link very quickly because the prevailing view is that appending your external link to the bottom of a previously created page adds little to the community and likely only benefits you.

But, let us say that you have a website that can be considered a resource in its field. If you see that Wikipedia does not have a page on a topic covered objectively by your website, you can create a Wikipedia page on that topic, link it to your website, and gain the SEO benefits of that link which, more than likely, won´t be removed.

CONCLUSION

Wikipedia is a free to use, free to edit online encyclopedia. This is a not-for-profit organization and so does not make money commercially from the website. The website is wholly made by the readers, since anybody can edit the pages. Though vandalism has been an issue, it has been minor considering the fact that thanks to sensible additions, Wikipedia today has millions of pages catering to almost all possible topics in more than 123 languages. This has made it the primary reference to the readers who search the internet for information.
