Malware is the term used to talk about software that is unwonted on your computer. Usually this type of software will make changes to your computer that you don't want. Spyware and adware are part of this group. There are many different pieces of software that can be used to clean up any infections.
Here are a few tips to help you avoid malware:
Try to avoid using sharing sites, such as Limewire, Bearshare, or Kazaa. Most of the time software downloaded from these websites can leave malware on your computer. With these programs, you can't trust the sources.
If you get an e-mail from an unknown person, never open it. Even if the person who has sent the e-mail is known to you, you should still be on alert. When another computer is infected, it may sent an e-mail out to you automatically from someone you know.
When closing pop-ups, on webpage’s click the X in the top right-hand corner, rather than clicking on the pop-up.
If you encounter any software, which tells you that you are infected and that you need to download software, you should stop. This is not a technique that antivirus programs use.
Never download a free piece of software, unless you definitely know that the source is reliable. If not you may be downloading a whole lot of adware.
To avoid malware, usually all you need to display is some good common sense. Using the tips above, will help you to be on your guard when downloading software.
