Domain Registration and Web Hosting Are Two Different Things

It has been about two decades has Internet first launched, and continues to grow in popularity day by day. There are lots of people, who are trying to find a way to get a website for themselves, or their business. In the process can be difficult to understand if you are new. The major difference is understanding what a domain name is and hosting is. Often time’s people only know what a domain name is.

The registration of domain

Having a domain name, means that you now have a name online, this can be compared to getting a new Sim card, or phone number from a telephone company or you can even liken it to getting an e-mail address from an e-mail provider. Your domain means that people have access to you if they have the Internet.

When you buy a domain, you are basically renting it, so this means that you have bid for an allocated time. That means normally cost about $10-$20 to register for one year. If you want to register for more years, so that you don't have to continuously register year by year, then 5 to 10 years or even 20 is available.

Once you have a domain chosen, and bought, either need a place to host it which is where hosting comes in. You will need to point the domain name at the holes that you have paid for; this will link the two together. There are some companies, that will take care of hosting and domain names, but you should be wary of this just in case you want to change your host.
