Walking and fitness
There definitely is a place for walking in fitness. For anyone who has not been active for a long time, it is best to approach an exercise regimen with caution and respect your body's limitations. Walking is a great introductory activity to master.
Walking is especially great if your body is overweight, under-conditioned and simply unaccustomed to physical activity. Walking, then can be considered as a stepping stone to fitness. It transitions you from the motionless to in motion. Walking is just a notch above not moving-you'll burn a few calories and warm up unused muscles.
Walking a Golf course
Walking a Golf course is great exercise. In one study, Swedish researchers concluded that walking a full round of golf was equal to 40-70% of the intensity of a full, high-impact aerobic workout. Another study, led by American cardiologist Dr. Edward Palank, proved that walking golfers were able to lower their levels of bad cholesterol. Basically, four hours of walking a good golf game is equal to about one 45-minute aerobics class.
Mountain walking
Mountain walking is divided into four techniques dependent on the general formation of the terrain. Walking on hard ground,grassy slopes, scree slopes, and tallus slopes. A normal progression as the slope steepens would be from walking straight up the slope, to a herringbone step, and then to a traverse on the steeper areas.
When descending you should move straight down the slope without traversing. Your back must be straight and knees bent so they take up the shock of each step. Walking with a slight forward lean and with feet in a normal position makes the descent easier.
CONCLUSION
Walking is the worlds most simple form of exercise and has incredible benefits. There is nothing better for you than a fast paced brisk walk in the winter air to put a smile on your face and let you know your alive. Take the dog, the baby or your partner and make the most of this simple and refreshing sport.
