Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is located at the very heart of Central Asia and in ancient times was a key link on the Silk Road connecting China with Western Europe. The legendary cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva were powerful states, important trade centres where architecture and the arts were highly developed.
Uzbekistan's golden age was under Tamerlaine in the 14th century AD. Ruling an empire stretching from Turkey to China, he made Samarkand his capital and left a breathtaking architectural legacy including mosques, madrassahs and majestic Registan Square.
Uzbekistan and drugs
Colombia is listed because of the ongoing violence related to the strong influence of the drug cartels there. Haiti is marked because of protracted civil unrest, while Uzbekistan has been identified as a possible terrorist breeding ground. In all cases the U.S. government warns Americans to avoid these countries as citizens may find themselves caught in the middle of an armed conflict.
Uzbekisan mining for uranium
First of all, they have a tremendous amount of experience with this. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have been doing ISL mining of uranium longer than anybody in the world. The Kazakhs, in particular KazAtomProm, have over the last 30 years, maybe more, developed an incredible amount of expertise in how to recover uranium effectively, inexpensively.
Russias alliance with Uzbekistan
If Russia’s nuclear alliance materializes with Kazakhstan and also includes Uzbekistan, U.S. utilities might lose access to about 8 million pounds of uranium annually. Domestically, the U.S. uranium mining industry only supplied 10.2 million pounds to owners of U.S. civilian nuclear power reactors in 2003.
Uzbekistan and rugs
I have seen beautiful handmade rugs from Romania, Uzbekistan and Egypt as well as the Caucasus region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea above Iran. The most famous rug weaving countries are Iran, Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, India and Turkey. This is a tradition that dates back thousands of years.
