Buying a horse trailer can be a tricky task especially if you have no idea what you are doing. If thre horse trailer is new you are bound to get one that lasts you as long as you take care of it. But is you are buying the trailer off of somebody then you will have to look out for a few things, that will help save you money in the long run.

Here are some things to be aware of that will make buying your used trailer an enjoyable experience.

The structure of the trailer is important. It is you job to look at the structure and framing of the trailer. You should actively check it out by getting down on the ground and looking under it. You should be looking out for anything that may pose a problem in the long run. If you see some superficial rust that should not be a major problem, this is very common, on steel framing. You should poke at the steel to make sure the use is only superficial though, its best to do this using a stick, if it is sturdy then that is fine. if it crumbles its time to leave.

Another thing to look at is the trailer floor. If the trailer has been neglected, then the manure and urine will have eroded the flooring. It is you responsiblity to check that the flooring is not falling to bits, if there are any mats on it you should pull them away to check underneath.
