The difficulty with toothaches is that they are never permanently treated unless you have the tooth removed or you undergo surgery to correct the problem.  Dentists are only able to treat the problem temporarily, unless you have a permanent solution performed, and, if you don't, more than likely you will be experiencing the same pain years from now.

As we age, we begin to worry less about our overall health, and more about our children’s health or another loved one.  However, it is important to not neglect your body, in particular your oral hygiene.  If you begin to take care of your teeth early, then you will not have as many problems later on in life.  There are some people who are extremely lucky and do not have any tooth problems, while other people are able to have one treatment at the dentist without experiencing pain ever again.

To better understand the tooth pain that you are experiencing, it is best to understand what a toothache truly is.  When you have an infected tooth, it simply means that the area between your tooth and the area where the nerve is located has a leak.  Air is getting down into the leak, causing extreme pain.  As an adult, the most common reason is because filaments have been worn away, which help bond the tooth and the jaw bone underneath the gum line.  A toothache can also mean that your tooth is deterializing, or you have lost a great deal of minerals from its surface.

As children, we were always told to brush our teeth regularly and stay away from sweets if we wanted to have strong teeth later on in life.  In recent years, it has been discovered that sugar consumption will withdraw calcium out of our bones.  Instead of the sugar resting on our teeth and causing the decay, it is actually within our bodies that the decaying is occurring.  This does not mean that brushing is not effective.  As a matter of fact, brushing is one of the best things that you can do to prevent a toothache.  This is due to the fact that leftover food particles are the leading cause for a toothache.  More importantly, germs are one of the common causes of a toothache because it is the most obvious cause of tooth decay.  Make sure that you consume a regular intake of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium each day to prevent tooth decay and toothaches.
