Water is a vital element of the human body so it’s something we all require lots of. Children and old individuals dehydrate more quickly than other people. This can be due partly to the fact that they are not always able to take off clothes that are too hot for the temperature, by themselves. A toddler’s torso mass is smaller too so the percentage of water lost compared with an adult will be greater. This is why your toddler must have constant access to water throughout the day to make sure his or her needs are filled.
Toddlers cannot be trusted to drink to quench their thirst all the time, so actually offering your child water and encouraging them to drink it may be essential. But getting your child to drink plain water if they have been used to flavoured drinks is not always easy. while flavoured drinks may have their place in today’s society, they are not adept for a child and so should be limited.
It is far more adept for the toddler to do without flavoured and sugary drinks altogether, whenever possible. Flavoured drinks have added sugar and salt that is not only unnecessary, but may actually be detrimental to health, causing tooth decay and obesity - and other problems such as diabetes.
So apart from milk, plain bottled water is one of the healthiest drinks for your toddler. when your toddler is really thirsty, then water cooled in the refrigerator will be absorbed much faster than water kept at room temperature. Also, on a hot day cold water is much more pleasant to drink, which means a toddler will be more plausibly to drink it. But how can you be sure your toddler is drinking enough water?
By offering the child water throughout the day, you will obtain that your toddler usually will drink enough to quench her thirst, and that will be all she needs. Our bodies absorb liquid from other drinks and also from the food we eat, so when your toddler eats and drinks as much as she wants, it will be enough.
To make bottled water more attractive to your toddler, you can add food colouring so it is her favourite colour. Stickers of her favourite individuals or animals on the bottle will also make it an attraction. In this way you will be encouraging your toddler to drink all the fluid she needs to keep her healthy.
