Table tennis introduction

Table tennis is a game similar to lawn tennis, usually played by two or four players on a table with wooden paddles and a small hollow plastic ball. As in lawn or indoor tennis, the table has a net that divides the playing area into two portions. However, during the service in table tennis, the ball must bounce once before clearing the net and again bounce before being struck by the receiver. The player returning the ball should not let the ball bounce again on his side after striking the ball.

Brief history of table tennis

It is believed that table tennis or ping pong, as it is known as in some countries, began as a social hobby in England toward the end of the 1800s. Dining room tables and balls of cork were used as equipment. Around the turn of the century, however, the game witnessed a few changes in England. The recreational game became less popular and it was left to the devices of some interested groups to revive it in the form of table tennis in the 1920s. In 1926, the International Table Tennis Association (ITTA) was formed. The sport caught on in Japan and other Asian nations. The Japanese dominated the sport for much of the 50s and 60s but later faced stiff competition from the Chinese. Table tennis became an Olympic event in the 1980s.

Outdoor table tennis

A modern outdoor table tennis table can be used for recreational play as well as for somewhat more professional use. The table can easily be stored when not in use and the materials used today are resistant which grants for many years of use for your family and friends. Having a table tennis exhibition

Once you have set up the table tennis exhibition, make sure everything is set up correctly. Bring a checklist to make sure that you don't miss anything. The last thing you want is to have to have somebody run out and get something that you forgot for the table tennis exhibition. Make sure you bring plenty of balls and table tennis paddles. Why? Simple. At exhibitions the people coming to watch may very well want to get involved. Audience participation is one of the best ways to build up a good name for yourself. Be friendly. Encourage those in attendance to get involved. To do that, you're going to need enough equipment to go around.

Table tennis rules

To start each point, the server tosses the ball, from an open palm, at least 6 inches into the air. The server strikes the ball with the paddle so that the ball bounces on his side of the table before bouncing on his opponent's side. A table tennis player wins a point by hitting a shot that strikes the table and is not returned by the opponent.

A table tennis player loses a point if he fails to return his opponent's shot, allows the ball to bounce more than once on his side of the net, fails to hit the table with his shot, hits the ball twice, places his hand on the table, hits the ball before it bounces on his side of the table, or fails to execute a legal table tennis serve.
