When shopping for suitcases, many people go for the normal-looking ones, such as those that sport dark or subtle colors. While price usually helps in choosing which suitcase to buy, some people don't bother to check the luggage's material and construction, whether it's cheap or expensive. This might prove to be a bad decision in the long run.

Are you looking for more "fun" suitcases? Most ladies and some men tend to go for more curves, prints, and shades in their luggage -- in short, suitcases that are out of the ordinary. And if you're traveling with kids, you can buy them suitcases that they themselves will be comfortable with -- such as luggage that double as toys (kids can even ride on some models!).

Things to consider about a suitcase purchase

while you might have bought the "right" suitcase, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the "perfect" suitcase. That's okay -- after all, nothing's perfect in this world. Many suitcase models displayed on the stores are already good, but can be even made better by purchasing suitcase accessories. These accessories both have decorative and practical uses; they can ease the carrying, help in identification, or add security to your suitcases.

Picking the right suitcase for travelling

It is recommend that you take one carry-on and one checked suitcase. Shorter trips may allow for a carry-on only, but I would never take more than one checked bag no matter how long you are traveling.

Remember, when you get to your destination, you will need to carry your suitcase and you don’t know how far you’ll be lugging it. While we’re talking about lugging your suitcase... I would recommend selecting a suitcase or pack that had wheels, but that you can also hand carry. There are many varieties of large backpacks with wheels. The reasoning is that if your wheels break off (a common occurrence along cobblestone streets), you will still be able to carry your pack.

Tips for packing a suitcase

Next take a sheet of polythene and lay this on top of the plastic bags and place either trousers, skirt or dress across the case. Now take the surplus polythene and wrap over the item, then fold the item into the suitcase, encased in the polythene. This will reduce the creases on each fold. With a jacket, make sure the top collar is placed on the polythene towards the back of the suitcase. Again wrap the polythene over the jacket, fold in the arms and lastly fold up the lower jacket.

Buying a suitcase

Today you should be able to walk into almost any department store worldwide and find some form of travel luggage. Suitcases, totes, duffels, cases, bags, briefcases, and more are just some of the luggage items available today that make traveling easier.

Suitcases are made of heavy duty materials that can take the beating of conveyor belts and being hauled, carted and tossed around a lot. Luggage sure doesn’t get treated with care at the airport and it’s rare that we treat our own luggage with lots of care even though it is expensive.
