Introduction to saunas

There are many individuals in the world that choose to use saunas regularly for the health benefits that saunas are supposed to provide. Saunas are typically a small room made out of wood and glass with a heater located inside that can be used to create a steam effect. Saunas are generally created without using varnish, adhesives, or any other items that might add fumes or an aroma to the steamy air inside of the sauna. Saunas are typically found in health clubs, spas, or resorts with very few being found in private homes.

Steam saunas

Although there are different types of saunas, steam (traditional) saunas are what most people think of when saunas are mentioned. Traditional steam saunas have been used for hundreds of years by many different societies for many different reasons and are relatively new to the United States. Today traditional saunas fall in the same luxury category as hot-tubs and are becoming somewhat more affordable starting roughly at US $2500.

A massage and sauna combination

There are many benefits of using massage and saunas together to help improve the health of your body. Massage can help relieve pressure points in the body and help the muscles relax. Saunas have the same benefits but work differently on the body. This is why combining the two is a fantastic idea if you want to feel great at all times.

Saunas of the past

The first sauna was nothing like what we have today, they were dug in the ground with a fire in the middle with two to three layers of small stones at the bottom. A tarp covered the sauna to have a warm place to bathe. This type of sauna is similar to the Native American sweat lodge. Over the years people of all cultures have indulged in sweat baths.

The sauna was originally separated from the main house and was often a single room, used for washing and warming up on benches. Eventually they became separate rooms by the invention of running water, making it easier to place the washroom away from water sources such as a lake or well.

CONCLUSION

There are many different health benefits attached to the use of a sauna, which far outweigh the disadvantages of using a sauna. The cons to using a sauna are minimal because it is through an abuse of this tradition that mainly leads to problems. Some people have adverse effects to extensive use.
