You will need to be a methodical and technical type of person to be a proofreader.

Here are some suggestions to help you become the best proofreader that you can be.

When applying for a job as a proofreader

If you are applying to become a proofreader and are sending a letter or an e-mail to your prospective employer, it is your job to make sure that there are no typos in the letter that you send. Sending out a letter which has a lot of spelling mistakes in it, will cast doubt on your abilities as a good proofreader for your potential employer. It is your job to present your self in the best possible light to your potential employer, especially when writing anything to them.

Checking your documents more than once

It is safe to say that when proofreading a document you will have to do this more than once. Usually the recommended amount of times to read over a document is three times. During your first and second read mistakes may be missed in the document, but generally a further attempt this can be rectified.

These two simple tips will help you to get a proofreading job and keep it once you have it. It is your job to put these basic principles into practice so that you can have a successful job as a proofreader.
