Proofreading Checklist
If proofreading is something that you are interested in, then you probably like to see things spelt correctly. In some cases words are spelt incorrectly to grab attention from the reader. In such cases the writer has intentionally used a wrong spelling of a word such as "wanna" instead of "want to". Exploring a career in proofreading, will require you to have a technical mind. That means that you should enjoy checking things and putting them right, in a methodical way.
There are a number of things you can do to improve your proofreading skills here are some suggestions to help you in your endeavours.
It is was good to check carefully
When applying for any proofreading job, it is a good idea to have all your words spell properly. It kind of defeats the purpose to have misspelt words in a letter to a company that you are trying to get work from, in regards to proofreading. Any errors that the reader of your letter sees, are likely to give them second thoughts about hiring you.
Going over words you have just read
If you want to be one of the best proofreaders, you will need an obsessive nature, in terms of checking words. To be able to catch errors in writing you need to have a good attention to detail. It is good practice to read all the things at least three times. Sometimes think I missed when read over only once, and they may also be missed when read over twices, but the chances of them being missed a third time are less likely.
These few tips will help you when applying for a job, and when actually proofreading for a company.
