The more that you read the more knowledge that you will gain unconsciously, which is what you need to be a good proofreader and spot mistakes. Taking relevant breaks

To be a good proofreader the ability to stay fresh and alert, is just as important as the ability to read. The more alert your the easier it will be for you to correct mistakes. You should probably try to rest after you have read one page of work, this will allow you to remain consistently alert.

Alertness when proofreading is very important, you should always read over work when you are wide-awake.
