Jigsaw puzzles are a great device for passing time and giving to your mind. Here are some interesting things to know about puzzles.
1- Jigsaw puzzles are tilling puzzles and they need to be assembled. There are different types of pieces for a puzzle they are interlocking or tessallating.
2- The first puzzles were made by painting a picture on a piece of wood that was flat and rectangle shaped. This wood was then cut into pieces to produce a puzzle. The saw used was called a jigswaw, which is where it gets its name.
3- The creation of puzzles is credited to a John Spilsbury, who was a map maker and engraver. It is him who is said to have commercialised the making of puzzles around 1760, since then puzzle are now made from cardboard.
4- Most puzzles have images on them that include scenes such as buildings, nature, repetitive design or castles and mountains. But there is no hard and fast rule about what picture should be used for a jigsaw puzzle.
5- There are a number of different puzzle sizes, which are 300, 500, 750 and 1000 pieces. There have been bigger puzzles made, the biggest ever recorded puzzle is 24,000 pieces.
