Introduction to jamaica
The Jamaican national motto, “Out of Many, One People”, best describes these people known as Jamaicans. Due to the ethnic mixture of the island's people, Jamaicans display a wide range of skin tones and facial features.
Coming from such diverse cultures as those found in Africa, East India, China, Europe, and the Middle East; they all consider themselves, quite simply, “Jamaicans“. Jamaicans are bound together by a rich cultural heritage steeped in tradition that goes beyond the color of their skin, ethnic backgrounds and social classes.
The Jamaican people
Jamaicans are some of the warmest and most accommodating people you’ll find. They are naturally friendly and genuinely enjoy interacting with tourists. The best advice I can give is -- as a visitor it is important to be courteous. A simple, “Yes, Please” or “No, Thank You” will go farther than you could ever imagine. Jamaicans always greet each other and their visitors with a pleasant “Good Morning” or “Good Evening". Using polite phases like "Please and Thank You" show genuine respect!
When to go to Jamaica
To be able to determine which would be the best time to go to Jamaica, there are a number of things that you need to know about the weather profile in the island. This includes knowing that there are only two seasons in Jamaica, which are the wet season and the dry season.
In relation to this, you also need to be aware of the rainiest months in Jamaica, which are usually the months of May, June, September and October. Given that Jamaica receives 78 inches of rain fall every year, it would be best of you avoid going to the island during these wet months, which could last up to November. It is also worth knowing that during April, the winds in Jamaica can be pretty strong, which can prevent you from doing activities like scuba diving and snorkeling due to strong waves.
Brief History of Jamaica
The history of Jamaica started long before the arrival of Columbus in 1494. Jamaica island was inhabited by Arawaks for hundreds of years or even more. They lived a simple life in small community based on fishing, hunting, and small scale cultivation. The arrival of Spanish led by Columbus opened the door of the island to the world, but the economic activities also brought new diseases that destroyed native Arawaks small communities in a few decades. The trace of early Arawaks life, today, can only be seen in a few artifacts-facts displayed at the small museum at White Marl.
CONCLUSION
Jamaica also has a number of museums, beaches and water sports. The average room rent for hotels or resorts varies. Vacations in Jamaica could prove to be quite affordable, though those who are looking for the best hotels would have to shell out a substantial amount of money.
