The Internet Service Referred To As Broadband
When we talk about internet connectivity, the word broadband is commonly used; this term is simply a way of describing the receive-and-transfer rate of information. In recent times we have witnessed broadband increase quite rapidly in popularity. This is primarily because of how fast those who use it are able to access the internet with it.
In the beginning, the only way of getting online was through a dialup connection. You needed a telephone line which the dialup connection would use to get you online. When you were online you were unable to access the telephone, which meant you had to decide between the two activities. The speeds that you were able to obtain with a dialup connection were very slow, with a lot of interruptions and cut-offs.
Broadband was able to successfully revolutionise the way we access the internet. With an increased amount of bandwidth, the amount of data that it’s able to receive and transmit at any one time is significantly more than what is possible with a dialup line. The data transfer rate is several times more, which means sending a receiving large files a possibility.
There are a number of broadband connection types. The different connection types are SDSL, Wi-Fi, ADSL, Cable Internet, Satellite Internet and Fibre optic broadband. SDSL and ADSL are the most commonly used internet broadband services. However, more and more people are using Wi-Fi broadband because of convenience. Because Wi-Fi is wireless it doesn’t confine an individual to a specific location. The download speeds that you are able to obtain on it are as low as 128 Kbps and as much as 2 Mbps.
