What Affects Your Broadband Speeds
A lot of scrutiny has been focussed at broadband providers, as many have learnt that the speeds that are advertised by these internet service providers are not the same speeds that customers are getting once they have purchased the service.
For many customers they find the situation quite frustrating. There are many people out there have been promised speeds as high as 8 Mbps, but they are later discovering that their connection speeds, in many cases is only slightly better than a dialup connection.
So what are some of the factors that affect the speeds that you get on your broadband connection? There are a number of conditions that can have an adverse affect on your connection, and unfortunately there are no quick ways of fixing this issue.
Conditions that can have an adverse affect on your connection speeds include:
Your distance from the exchange
This is factor probably contributes more to slow broadband speeds than anything else. The closer you live to the telephone exchange, the faster internet speeds you will be able to obtain. Only the people who live close to a telephone exchange will be able to enjoy download speeds as high as 8 Mbps, promised by the internet providers.
Amount of computers on your network
If you have several computers in your home, all connected to the same router, then this could affect the kind of speeds that you are able to get on online, as one connection is shared amongst many.
Quality of cables
You should receive top quality modem cables with your router, which should be a priority of the internet service provider. If you don’t receive top quality cable, then it’s in your best interest to ensure that what you’re using is capable of delivering on the goods. Poor internal telephone cabling is also capable of affecting your download and upload speeds.
