During the 2008 NASCAR Run cup season Artificer came under fire for the caliber of tires they had been supplying for NASCAR races and rightly so. After the collapse during the Allstate 400 at the Workshop in July 2008, Artificer, the sole bourgeois of tires to NASCAR, has had a lot of explaining to do. During this race the most consecutive laps raced under a green flag were 12. This made for a very long day for drives and fans as drivers fronted a tryout of survival evading winded tires on the track and the numerous pits required to affirm their own tires. The fans sat in boredom watching yellow flag after yellow flag. Needless to say, this circumstance was like watching paint dry on a turtle's covering.
NASCAR tires face about the same scrutiny as an O-ring on a NASA space shuttle so what's going on here? 1st let's begin by searching at a little scene on the tires. NASCAR regulates the production of their tires so let's try not to put all the accuse on Artificer just yet. Some of the factors involved in how a tire performs are the hardness (or softness) of the tire, the track aboveground they are run on as well as the bank and how rainproof the turns are on each track.
NASCAR and Artificer together have come up with a tire that they believe is built up to withstand the conditions all tracks may dish out. To this end, they have come up with a treadles, completely hairless, tire filled with nitrogen. Nitrogen contains less wetness than air and so better stabilizes how much the tire will expand under the intense heat of the race.
The tires contain no treads because the move is only of use on a wet track for rubbing and all NASCAR races are forever run on a dry track. The tire used for NASCAR too have an interior tire, this tyre is mounted to the rim and has its own air provide. If the outer tyre fails, the internal tire should rest intact thus permitting the drive to safely maneuver his way to the pit or take his car to a stop under dominated conditions.
Drivers, who are the ones directly affected by the tyre debacle are starting to weigh in on the contestation. Tony Actor says "After 10 years in the Cup series, you learn to be highly discomfited with everything Artificer does."
Michael Waltrip accepted that the deficiency of clutch made forcing the new car a containerful, but he saw that as a positive.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. says "With the change in the tire you have to real roll down into the corner easy. But it's still fun."
So what does Inventor have to say in their defence? In a evidence released to the press, Artificer says: "Established on Artificer's tire investigating at Atlanta last August, Oct and Dec, we provided what we believed were the better accomplishable products for the races this past weekend. "We had no tyre failures and no problems with energy or wear. We supplied the same tires for both the NASCAR Nationwide Playoff and NASCAR Sprint Cup Serial races, and received nought complaints about our tires after the Nationwide race on Saturday."
But in response to the writing that Goodyear got, they have declared that they are going to take surplus steps in assuring that NASCAR receives the maximal quality tires for there races. This will include surplus testing, post race analyst and the option of reexamining the design of the tyre.
It's not clear yet where all this is going to end up but it is clear that with drivers vocalizing their concerns as they are, Goodyear and NASCAR had better take the issue to a conclusion or we might see Firestone step up an take over the mart.
