Should I Get DSL or Cable High Speed Internet
When you are signing up to an internet service provider, you will usually have two options to choose from, either a DSL or Cable internet connection. For the consumer who is less knowledgeable, these two internet connection types may seem like the same thing, but in reality they are very much different. Each connection type has its own set of cons and pros. So, before you make any decision on which one to invest in, it’s best that you are knowledgeable about each ones benefit.
DSL is basically an internet service that uses your existing phone line to give you access to the web. However, unlike the dreaded dialup connection, it’s possible for you to us your phone and access the internet at the same time with it. This is due to the fact that it uses a different frequency to your phone to transfer data, so the two interfaces never interfere with one another. This is very beneficial, because minimal equipment is required for you to gain access to the internet through DSL. DSL is much cheaper than cable connections, and is available in more areas.
With a cable connection, the user accesses the internet through a devoted cable line. A cable line is capable of carrying internet on its own, or TV channels a long with it. The main drawback of a cable line is that you will be required to pay quite a lot for you to have access to the internet via a cable line. However, one it’s all setup in your home, the speeds that you will get will on average be faster than what is obtainable on a DSL line. For example, if you were to watch a video stream online using a cable connection, then it’s likely that you would be able to watch it all the way through. With a DSL connection, it’s likely that you will have to pause the video to allow it to load all the way first.
