Is Cable Internet High Speed or Broadband
You have probably been asking yourself for quite a while now, whether or not cable is a broadband or high speed connection. Well, the answer to this question is very simple; it is both. The vast majority of internet service providers will use either one of these terms to describe the services they offer, and it’s correct to use both terms. With cable internet, the end users are able to access the internet at higher speeds than they would be a dialup or DSL connection. In turn, a DSL (Direct Subscriber Line) is able to provide faster internet access than a dialup line.
Broadband is a term that is used to describe a circuit or a signal, which is designed to handle a wide range of frequencies. An example would be the coaxial cable which is used to create that link between your computer and the internet, through the router or modem, of course.
However, the claims that you see of “high speed” connectivity aren’t all the same. Many service providers out there will claim that they are able to offer their customers the fastest speeds. But it’s important for the end user to know exactly what type of connectivity the service provider is referring to, and exactly what they are comparing their speeds to.
So it’s important that you are aware of the definitions when you are making that decision to switch from one connection type to another. Most service providers out there are able to provide you with either broadband or high speed internet, so its left up to you, to decide how fast you want your internet experience to be and the budget your able to work with.
