The Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. If one were to take a casual drive through nearly any urban neighborhood or rural farm neighborhood in this country, one would almost certainly see more than one of this breed, romping with children in the yard or being walked in the park. Over the years, the Golden Retriever
has become well known in many of the pursuits which serve mankind.
He has made history as "Dog Hero of the Year" more than once in this country. Whether their job is a Gundog, a Therapy Dog, a Search and Rescue dog, an Assistance dog, a Guide Dog for the blind, or an all around family pet, they are equally at home.
Golden Retrievers appeal
Golden Retrievers are athletic dogs that are well balanced. They are a large breed, but are slightly longer than they are tall. Golden Retrievers have an outgoing temperament with a very luxurious coat. The coat is usually straight, waterproof and dense. Golden Retrievers do not have hard, silky, or wool-like hair. As they become older, their coats can become darker in color while the fur around their face whitens.
Golden retriever origins
The foundation of the golden retriever is the cross between the Tweed Water Spaniel (a breed that now ceases to exist) and the Flat Coat Retriever. The first litter had four puppies that were named Crocus, Primrose, Cowslip, and Ada. Crosses with several other breeds, including the Red Setter, the Newfoundland and the Bloodhound, over the years resulted into the glorious golden retriever at the turn of the twentieth century. The golden retriever combines the sweet disposition of a family companion dog with the spirit and vivacity of a retriever.
Golden retriever training
Golden retrievers are obedient and easy-to-train dogs. The puppy has to be taught good manners; it has to get used to a daily routine. You will have to make it known to your puppy where it can and can’t go, whether or not it is allowed to sleep on the sofa or chew your slipper. Do not puzzle the puppy by permitting something one day and forbidding it the next. You can give your puppy a little treat as an incentive and gently reprimand it as a penalty, but never hit your puppy – it will break its spirit.
CONCLUSION
The golden retriever requires average levels of maintenance. It is easy to groom and can be washed at home. It is an average shedder and can be kept indoors most of the time. But what it requires more than average is love and affection. Shower your love and affection on a golden retriever and watch it become a part of your family.
