Introduction to Go Karts
Go Karting is a hobby that many of us try when we are young, as it is extremely fun and exhilarating for those under the legal driving age of regular cars.
Go karts were originally designed in 1956 in California by a veteran hot rodder Kurtis Kraft, and their popularity quickly spread to other countries around the world and currently has a very large following in Europe.
Insides of a Go Kart
The engine in go karts is what separates them from their younger cousin, the soapbox car which is what the younger kids generally have a lot of fun with. There are many different sizes and types of engines which can push the go kart to quite incredible speeds for its small size. A 100cc formula A kart with a 2 stroke engine and overall weight of 150kg’s including the driver can reach a dizzying speed of 85mph (140km/h) and can accelerate from 0-60mph in under 4.5 seconds. A 125cc kart can do 0-60 in just a fraction over 3 seconds and reaches top speeds of 115mph (185km/h)!
Finding a cheap Go Kart
First, go to Google.com and type ‘go karts,’ ‘go kart,’ ‘go kart sale’ or ‘discount go karts’ into the search box. You may also want to try 'go carts,' 'go cart,' 'gocarts,' 'gocart,' ‘gokarts’ or ‘gokart’ spelled differently or enter some different gokarting words that may be appropriate. This will yield an unbelievable amount of online dealers. Check out about 10 or 20 of them and make a note of the different models and prices that they offer. Also, you’ll notice on the right side of the Google search web pages there are many sponsored ads. Companies pay a lot of money to advertise there. Many of these sites have great prices and they should be checked out too.
Important tips when buying a Go Kart
Ideally if you are looking for used gokarts then it pays to buy locally, search within your driving range so that you can inspect the go kart, give it a test run and ask all of the pertinant questions you need to ask.
If the go kart has been raced or is from a go cart hire business, then it is logical to assume it has had heavy and repeated use and has probably been involved in a few crashes and spills, these are questions you need to ask, if it has been crashed a few times then the go kart chassis is probably out of line and there will be other problems that are not visible or identifiable at the time of inspection.
Pedal Go karts
Pedal go-karts are an excellent way to develop spatial awareness, co-ordination and physical strength in children. Children must learn to judge obstacles in their way and how to navigate around them. They learn how to perform two tasks at once, steering and pedaling, while still being aware of their surroundings. And of course, all that pedaling helps develop their cardiovascular endurance, and develops their leg muscles. Reflexes are also sharpened as the children drive the pedal go kart, navigating their environment, and having fun.
