The list of Ghana's casinos is quite short: not a surprise for a poor African country. Actually, by the standards of Africa, Ghana isn't actually all that poor. It was the first African country to shake off colonialism in 1957, led by Kwame Nkrumah. The next 30 or so years were the usual struggle against the economic incompetence of the various rulers, including the almost traditional military coup. Things finally got sorted out in the 1990's, and the economy is now growing again, giving the inhabitants roughly twice the income per head that is usual in Africa.

Watching Ghana playing Brazil in their Round of 16 match during this year's World Cup made me so proud of being an African. Their game was inundated with expertise, vim, vivacity and a host of good pointers that really spoke well of them. Of course, I don’t want to overlook the fact that they had a flaw in their finishing style.

Yes, they got a number of very good chances of scoring but they wasted them due to their lack of finishing tricks. Does this speak to the whole of Africa and in essence tell us that we have so much to 'tighten' if we are ever to do better than most of these so-called ‘world class’ teams? The answer is, of course, a big YES! There is no doubt about that.

Ghana’s newness to the world cup scenario also was a good pointer that this team has firm ‘guts’ to take on a team as good as Brazil.

Ghana Holiday

Ghana is a very accessible and friendly holiday destination. The magnificent beaches located along the coast can rival that of the Seychelles or Mauritius. The clear blue sea and sandy beaches are a major draw to Ghana and once you see them you understand why.

The beaches located in and around Accra are the best and if possible seek accommodation here as the activities available in this area are great. Many of the hotels will have pools and for a safer swim, it might be advisable to use them rather than risk the undertows and riptides in the lagoons of Accra.

CONCLUSION

The Beautiful people of Ghana on Tuesday, the 6th of March 2007, marked precisely the 50th birth day of the political independence of our mother land. And the Day was celebrated in a most spectacular fashion of red, gold and green colours, ever witnessed at the Independence Square in the political history of the country.
