Why is Broadband So Popular?
The answer to this question would be to say that there are a number of things that are taking place online, that were not so popular before the introduction of broadband. Let us take a deeper look into these things.
One of the biggest effects that broadband connectivity has had on the internet is in the rise of streaming multimedia, such as videos, music and games. In the days of dialup connections, it took hours for you to download these media files, saving them to your system and then executing them. Now there is plug-ins that allow you to watch videos and listen to music from your web browser window, without having to wait an age, as the broadband connection is able to download data at several times the rate as past technologies.
So it’s not surprising that this has been popular. The fortunes of Apple’s music service and iTunes which allows you to be able to purchase and download songs for cheap online, are all tied to the introduction of broadband. When you are given the choice between visiting your local movie or audio store and just simply clicking on a few buttons to watch or listen to the same song, there is no comparison. Videos sites such as Google Video and YouTube have also been able to do well, as many people look for short, funny videos that they can watch in their spare time.
Gaming online is another thing that has been made possible because of broadband connectivity, whether it’s a massive multiplayer game, which features thousands of people scattered all over the planet, or a free flash game, the faster download and upload rate is what makes playing these games far more enjoyable.
