Criminal Defense Attorneys and Healthcare Fraud Statistics

When the new millennium arrived, Americans were spending in excess of 1.3 trillion just on healthcare, people who have a good understanding of the nature of people would realise that, when you have that kind of money at stake, those who lack morals will seek to profit off the expense of other peoples welfare. From IRS estimates, it is assumed that between 3% and 10% of these healthcare costs are fraudulent. At the bottom end, that is a minimal of $39 billion going missing, that’s including the $13 million which is spend on yearly Medicare payments.

Obviously, people should look to do something about this. And though, as what usually happens, federal prosecutors and investigators will rely on a injudicious and heavy hand, rather on the more consistent kind, when it comes to tracking the money that is lost in the healthcare fraud. The strategy that is deployed focuses more on making examples of people, rather than on changing the way the system works, which would be difficult and inconvenient.

This is shown by statistical information. Based on statistics from the government, a measly 466 investigations on the fraud in the healthcare fund were undertaken between the years 2005 and 2007, with only 200 of these cases resulting in a conviction. The prosecution and investigation of fraud cases can be a very complex area, but it’s pretty obvious that the loss of $39 billion cannot be caused by only 60 people every single year.

It’s the same nature in human beings that leads to the fraud in the healthcare fund that leads prosecutors and investigators to cut corners, in an attempt to solve a problem that is legitimate with little effort.
