With the internet it’s now possible for us to access any kind of information that we want. It has also improved the way that we communicate with one another. But have you ever taken the time to think about the numerous connection types to access the internet?

In the beginning there was the dialup connection, then DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) connections arrived on the scene, today there is a lot of competition between high speed cable and satellite internet services.

There two different internet connection types have their own set of disadvantages and advantages, so let us discuss what they are:

Reach: With the cable internet connection, a wired network is required. Network professionals are called out to install it. It’s easily accessible for those who live in large cities, but not so for those who live in restricted areas. It’s not usable for those who live in isolated areas. However, with satellite internet, you have something that is able to provide internet access to those who live in isolated locations. It connects users to the internet through a satellite that is orbiting the planet.

Hardware: If you go for a cable connection, then you will need the cables and a cable modem, if you go for a satellite connection, then a modem and dish is required.

Installation Costs: No matter what solution you go for, the operational fees and taxes are pretty much the same. But the cost to setup an satellite internet connection will cost considerably more than your cable line.

Weather Conditions: A satellite connection can be interrupted by bad weather, whereas a cable connection will remain unaffected even in the first conditions.

Bandwidth: Bandwidth is basically the amount of data which can be accessed within a certain period of time. The amount of bandwidth offered by satellite internet is limited in comparison to a cable line.
