Dentures introduction

While dentures can replace teeth lost due to periodontal disease, decay or injury, they cannot be as good as your natural teeth. While dentures may be valuable to keep your facial muscles from sagging and for other health reasons, they can also cause a good amount of pain and discomfort. Among the times when dentures can cause enough discomfort are during the adjustment phase (when the dentures are new) and after some years of using them (when they start to fit badly).

Alkali is the active ingredient in many of your household cleaners such as dishwasher liquid, shampoo, bar soap, clothes washing detergent, etc.

Denture history

Sets of dentures have been found dating from the 15th century and probably existed before that time. Later, dentures were made of vulcanite and then, in the 20th century, acrylic resin and other plastics. In Britain in 1968 79% of those aged 65-74 had no natural teeth, by 1998 this proportion had fallen to 36%.

There are many accounts of scavengers who, inancient times, after battles, went to the battlefields and removed healthy teeth from dead warriors mouths and then sold those teeth to local dentists who invented ways to make the teeth into dentures for their patients. In addition, there are many legends about George Washington and his problems with his dentures. Legends say he first had a local wood carver make him set of oak dentures, later, we are told, he had other dentures carved out of elephant tusk ivory.
