Being a proofreader can be a tricky profession. If you enjoy reading people's work and correcting it, then this is definitely the right profession for you. If you get a certain type of fulfilment from adjusting peoples work proofreading is great for you. It is important you enjoy reading the document, because some documents may have words which are intentionally spelt wrong, to grab the reader's attention off if they are written for a certain community.
There are some things you may want to consider when proofreading any document.
Using a spellchecker
It is surprising, how often people forget to use a spellchecker and proofreading. This device has been invented for a reason and is worth using to help doublecheck what you have read. In such a case where the documents which you are reading are in text format it is in your best interest to use a spellchecker after you finish reading.
Double checking spellings
Even when using a spot check, you can always assume that everything it says is spelt wrong, is not wrong. In some cases a spellchecker will highlight words as being misspelled and actually they are fine. In such a case, it is up to you to doublecheck that would just in case.
These are some tips for you, to help you with your proofreading. The more thoroughly that you read through the work, the more likely it is to be a better finished job, this will in turn get you more work and more money. It's up to you to make all the necessary checks, so that there are no mistakes in the document.
