Define Proofreading
There are many people that enjoy reading, if you are one of these people and are looking for a job, maybe you should consider becoming a proofreader. As a proofreader it will be your job to read over documents and correct them. Correcting a document may require you to put the proper punctuation in a document and structure sentences and words the way that they should be in order for the document to make sense. If you are a technical person you really enjoy reading a job as a proofreader maybe your dream job.
Here are a few things that you can do to improve how well you proofreader a document.
Using a spellchecker
If the work that you are proofreading is in text format then it is a good idea to use a spellchecker on the document before you attempt to read through it manually. It is amazing how many people forget that they have an inbuilt spellchecker on program such as Microsoft Word, and other basic text editors. Using a spellchecker is a good way to systematically check the structuring of a document and how well the words are spelt.
Doublechecking a spellchecker
When writing a document, sometimes the author may spell words in a slang format, or a way that a spellchecker will not recognise. It is your duty to make sure that you doublecheck any word that the spellchecker suggests as being spelt wrongly.
There are many other techniques that you can use when proofreading a document, these are some of the basic things that you should consider, especially if you are reading a document which is in text format. The modern-day computer can be very helpful when it comes to proofreading.
