Fire Dampers
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in their publication Protecting Building Environments from Airborne Chemical, Biological, or Radiological Attacks states “While it is important to understand how the existing building systems function, the systems need to operate per building design.” The CDC goes on to provide a list of items to be considered in this evaluation/walk-thru of a building.
The list includes items such as filtration, condition of the ductwork, and whether all smoke and fire dampers are functioning, and to check the dampers for “how well they seal when closed.” The manual also notes that the responsiveness of the dampers in the event of a CBR (chemical, biological, radiological) attack is crucial.
Piano dampers
When a key on an acoustic piano is pressed down.
The dampers are small pieces of wood with felt attached to them.
This mechanism is so connected with the key that the latter cannot be moved without occasioning a movement of its own damper. Each key is thus the means by which both a hammer and a damper are moved to action, the hammer for producing tone, the damper for stopping it. (In the case of a few of the top keys of the piano, the damper mechanism is wanting.)
Preventing CO2 with a Damper
If you can not find matching dampers for the size and type of duct that you have, you may have to convert the duct to a size or type that you can find dampers for. Using a “Y” connector and a power damper that closes when power is added, hook up inline with the duct running to the outside. For smooth flow, install “Y” so exhaust comes in the ‘bottom’ of the “Y” duct section.
Now take the damper that opens when power is applied, attach it to the other “Y” opening. Run a duct from this ‘power open’ damper into the grow area above the plants, since CO2 is heavier than air; but you probably already know this. Now all you have to do is either wire the dampers together or use a multi-outlet adapter and plug them into your CO2 sequencer along with your CO2 generator or CO2 tank regulator using a 3 outlet adapter.
CONCLUSION
The Damper Pedal raises the damper (hammers) off the strings at once, and holds them off, so that if the fingers are removed from the keys, the sounds does not stop, as the pedal is still holding the dampers of the strings.
A damper is also a device that deadens, restrains, or depresses.
