Compunction dilemma

Our desire for instant happiness blinds us to the remorse we shall experience in the long term. Letting our senses overpower our intellect will sooner or later only result in nothing but compunction. A robber robs because he has cupidity for money. As long as he evades the cops he does not bother about the wrong. Though he is always aware that stealing is wrong, he does not feel guilty because the negative consequences of doing it escape his mind.

Marriage compunction

Too often men and woman marry, yet they never esteemed the sanctity of the marriage covenant. It is relatively easy for men and women who have little or no regard for the sacredness of matrimony to violate their marital vows. Consequently, these individuals have no compunction about inflicting pain upon their spouse. They will effortlessly commit marital fraud, adultery, emotional torture, withhold sexual favors and engage in other types of abuse.

Agents and compunction

In reality, the agent's "client" is actually her mother or a friend, posing as a buyer. The agent goes along and says very little, at least in the beginning. All she does is give the homeowner a business card upon arrival, and then she stays in the background, listening and observing. The bogus buyer asks all kinds of questions, and eventually the homeowner begins to feel comfortable with having the agent there.

After awhile, the owner begins asking the agent questions about the market, financing, or the many other things involved in selling a home. According to the agent, she converts a fairly large percentage of such appointments into listings, and apparently has no compunction about the deception involved in getting them.

CONCLUSION

1. A strong uneasiness caused by a sense of guilt. See Synonyms at pentinence.

2. A sting of conscience or a pang of doubt aroused by wrongdoing or the prospect of wrongdoing. See Synonyms at qualm.
