Comedian George Lopez's

Despite his position as one of the foremost Hispanic comedians in the country, he has been involved in some controversy. He is engaged in a little feud with fellow Hispanic comedian, Carlos Mencia, whom he accused of stealing some of his material. He is also critical of guest show host Jay Leno, who he blasted in a recent interview.

Despite this, George Lopez's career is still on the fast track. A new album has recently been released. A HBO special, "America's Mexican", is due to air at the end of February, 2007. He was selected as one of the 25 most influential Hispanics in the Country by Time Magazine. He is a comedian and star at the peak of his career.

Comedians do fail

Failed jokes (or any other attempt at humor) are forgivable. In fact, sometimes failed humor is even lovable. We all have that crazy and fun person in our lives that is famous for the bad or corny jokes. And we love them, right? And we all know that even the top comedians tell jokes that fail. What's up with that?

Look at Jay Leno and David Letterman. During any one of their monologues you'll see them trot out 7 minutes of new material, and at least 50% of it fails. (Or is at least mediocre.) And they are still famous, still have their own show, and still earn a gajillion dollars. (How many zeroes are there in a "gajillion?")

Comedians come and go

Unless you are a fan of stand-up comedians, they generally come and go in the spotlight. There will be a rush of demand, or one stand-up comedian makes it big, and then they fade away until the next big hit. But there are a few comedians that have made it big without ever disappearing again.

US comedian, Jeff Dunham is one of them. Although, you can't really say 'one' when referring to Jeff's act. Jeff is a ventriloquist with about 5 plus talking-dolls that join him on stage. He became famous with his live show: "Arguing with Myself", which aired on Comedy Central. It was one of the network's highest rated hour-long stand-up specials.

CONCLUSION

A comedian (m), comedienne (f), or comic, is a performer who entertains an audience by making them laugh. This might be through jokes or amusing situations, or acting the fool, as in slapstick, or employing prop comedy. A comedian who stands and addresses an audience directly is called a stand up comic.

Since the mid-1980s, a new wave of comedy, called alternative comedy, grew in popularity with its more offbeat and experimental style. This normally involves more experiential, or observational reporting, e.g. Andy Kaufun. Alternative comedy is now arguably the mainstream.
