Wake Coffin

During the wake, the coffin either rests in the house or outside of the house to represent the person dying in the home or away for the home, respectively. The family and friends gather for the cake and eat food placed in front of the coffin. And the family also performs a series of rituals and prayers to respect the dead.

After the wake ceremonies are completed, the coffin is nailed shut and carried to side of the road to be additionally prayed over before being taken (usually by hearse) to burial grounds that are normally found on hillsides for better feng shui. When the casket is buried the family turns away from the coffin to show respect and later the mourners' clothes are to be buried to evade bad luck.

Coffin Styles

Inside the sarcophagus were 3 coffins nested inside each other, with each coffin more elaborate than the other. The two other coffins were made from wood and were covered with sheets of gold. The inner coffin was pure gold, and weighed over 240 pounds. Inside this coffin the face of the mummified king was covered with a death mask that was made from pure gold and precious gems that weighed 220 pounds.

Coffin distinctions

Any box used to bury the dead in is a coffin. Use of the word "casket" in this sense began as a euphenism introduced by the undertaker's trade in North America; a "casket" was originally a box for jewelry.] Some Americans draw a distinction between "coffins" and "caskets"; for these people, a coffin is a tapered hexagonal or octagonal (also considered to be anthropodial in shape) box used for a burial. A rectanglar burial box with a split lid used for viewing the deceased is called a "casket" as seen in the picture above.

Seagrass Coffins are an attractive light colour and can have additional rings for flowers. They are produced in China and come from a factory with ethical employment policies.

Plain Pine Coffins are solid wood coffins from sustainable sources. They are unvarnished and even the pegs to hold the lid in place are biodegradeable.

Traditional Solid Wood Coffins are made from environmentally sustainable paulownia wood from responsibly managed forests. They come in mahogany, light and mid oak effects.

Pineapple Leaf Coffins are the most recent addition to our range. These coffins are made from woven pineapple leaves and are attractive in that they are two tone.
