Canyoning introduction
Canyoning (known as canyoneering in the U.S.) is traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling, and/or swimming.

Although hiking down a canyon that is non-technical (canyon hiking) is often referred to as canyoneering, the terms canyoning and canyoneering are more often associated with technical descents — those that require rappels (abseils) and ropework, technical climbing or down-climbing, technical jumps, and/or technical swims.
More about Canyoning
Not for the fainthearted, canyoning is a white water ride down gorges and waterfalls. Participants run down wet slabs of rock, jump off blind escarpments, scramble up rocks and abseil down drops. You get fully kitted out before you go with helmets and wetsuits so you're well protected. What better way to wipe the cobwebs away than by plunging off waterfalls into cold water!
Coasteering is known as the saltwater cousin of canyoning, being very similar in that you're going to get very wet and have an excellent time jumping off cliffs in to the sea.
Canyoning in Spain
Spain has an excellent climate and geography for canyoning. Canyoning is very popular and immensely exhilarating sport, as well as an excellent way to really get out and about in the countryside and see the best of Andalucia ! It involves navigating down a water course by a combination of walking, climbing, swimming, abseiling, jumping and generally scrambling down the river & its banks.
It is suitable for pretty well all ages, though you should be fit and agile enough for a couple of hours of scrambling in and around flowing water, be a competent swimmer and not be of too nervous a disposition when it comes to jumping into pools of water from natural surroundings.
CONCLUSION
This experience combines the techniques of mountain climbing, potholing, swimming and rock climbing all in one. You will call upon all of these skills as you follow a water trail through its natural path of ravines, caves and canyons until it reaches the river. Your day will start with a full safety briefing and an introduction to the equipment you will be using. The route will be explained to you in full - then you are off!!!
