Ring stopping a Bullet

The story of the man's ring stopping a bullet is worth noting. While conducting maintenance on his 40 caliber handgun, the gun misfired, releasing a bullet from the chamber and causing it to graze his hand. He was wearing the ring at the time of the accident. The bullet first hit his titanium ring, deflecting it and preventing injury to his ring finger. He did have to get his pinky finger amputated as the bullet grazed his pinky in the process, but the titanium ring took the brunt of the shot and saved his ring finger from amputation.

Bullet proof vests

Are bullet-proof vests really bullet-proof? Yes, and they save police and soldiers and marines every day. There are varying degrees of protection - there are some soft, light vests which protect against pistol bullets, and there are heavier vests with plate inserts that protect against rifle and machinegun bullets.

A basic vest can stop low caliber bullets like the 9 mm pistol ammunition but it cannot stop the high velocity bullets fired from rifles like the M4 carbine (5.56mm) or AK-47 (7.62mm). Vests can be fitted with ceramic tiles that weigh a couple of kilos that make them resistant to those bullets as well but at the same time it limits that agility of the user.

Bullet collecting

Did you know that during the Civil War, more than 1000 different types of bullets were used? This is one reason Civil War bullet collecting has become a popular hobby. Another reason is that the time of the Civil War saw changes taking place in the development of firearms and ammunition.

The old round musket balls of the Revolution were being replaced with bullets in the shape we are accustomed to. While musket balls are found on Civil War battlefields, the most common type of bullet used was the .58-caliber bullet with three rings around the base. Many bullets found are splattered out of shape. If you've always been fascinated by the Civil War and firearms, Civil War bullet collecting is a hobby you will enjoy.

CONCLUSION

When a bullet is fired from a gun, the gun leaves unique markings, or grooves, on the surface of the bullet as it travels through the barrel. These grooves help forensic firearms examiners determine a match between the bullet and gun type and perhaps to the actual gun used in a crime. Similarly, bullet and shell casings can be matched with bullets and casings taken from other crime scenes that are listed in other databases.
