Introduction to Botox

Botox is a trade name for botulinum toxin A, derived from a bacterium Clostridium botulinum. By its basic nature, Botox is related to botulism, which is a form of food poisoning that occurs when someone ingests something containing a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. But Botox owes much of its contemporary fame to the fact that when injected into the skin in measured doses it helps in removing wrinkles.

Botox benefits

Many other possible health benefits of Botox are currently under investigation. Mild amounts of Botox can also help cure ailments such as blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking) and strabismus (lazy eye). According to a new study, Botox injections into the prostate ease symptoms and improve quality of life for men with enlarged prostate. Botox has also been found effective in treating migraine patients.

A Reason to Try Botox

As we age, the effects of time, gravity and stress begin to show on our faces and bodies. Skin begins to lose its elasticity, leading to facial lines and wrinkles. Some of the most common problem areas include the areas on the forehead, around the eyes and around the mouth. Botox is actually a bacterium-based toxin derived from botulinum toxin type A. While it can be dangerous or fatal in a pure state, its use in Botox helps relax facial muscles and smooth lines.

Botox side effects

As with most treatments, there are a few side effects to cosmetic Botox surgery, the most notable being some minor swelling and bruising around the site of injection. But, in reality you will get bruising and swelling with just about any injection you receive, regardless of the intent. It typically goes away within a week of the treatment. Also, most people develop a small headache soon after injection, within the same day. It typically goes away within one to two days after the treatment.

CONCLUSION

Botox is actually the purified product produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. The drug works by weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles and frown lines. If used in its purified form and in tiny amounts Botox will relax muscles which lessen the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet.
