Introduction to bicylces

Everyone knows what a bicycle is and how to use it.

History of BMX Bikes

The BMX bike is one of the fastest growing bikes on the market. In the 1960’s, BMX bikes began as knock off versions of motocross motorcycles. BMX bikes were used to play in the dirt. Riders were seen jumping and racing around dirt tracks, as well as, around their neighborhoods on BMX bikes. Kids who were typically uninterested in motocross or racing wanted to get their hands on a BMX.

BMX bike v Traditional bike

You can identify a BMX bike from your average bike in a number of ways. Specific features of a BMX bike include standard 20 inch tires. The tread on a BMX tire is much different when compared to your average bicycle tire. A regular bike tire may have a few grooves or ridges, but a BMX tire tread has large knobs and crevices to help gain traction and maintain control in the dirt. Rough terrain would be too much to handle for an average bicycle tire, but BMX tread can get the job done.

Tandem Bike

Tandem bicycles are bicycles that are built for two or more people. Originally they were created by welding two or more bicycles together; however, today they are custom built by hand. The first patent for a tandem bicycle was filed sometime in the 1800s, and since then they have remained a great alternative to the traditional two wheelers. Modern versions of the original tandem are considered high end custom bikes.

Mountain bikes and bike material

Currently the most popular frame materials for a mountain bike are steel, aluminum, titanium, and carbon fiber.

Steel has been used as a frame material the longest. It is the heaviest and also one of the most durable frame materials. It is a fairly rigid material that is durable or stands up over several years of riding. Bikes made with steel frames also tend to be less expensive

Aluminum is one of the more popular frame materials. It is one of the lightest, second to carbon fiber, and these frames tend to be less expensive than carbon fiber and titanium.

Titanium is currently the best frame material for mountain bikes. It is moderately light, is very durable, and is forgiving or slightly flexible, yielding a smooth ride. The downside to this material is the cost.

Carbon fiber is the newest material on the block. It is made of sheets of carbon atoms that are laid out long and thin to resemble fibers. Carbon fiber is currently the lightest material used for bike frames. Carbon fiber makes a great, light frame that also has some flexibility or is forgiving in the bumps however it's not always very durable.

CONCLUSION

Tandem bikes are a fun way to share the biking experience with someone you care about, as a well as a great biking option for people with vision impairments. When shopping for a BMX freestyle bike make sure you buy one that will fit its rider. The height and weight of the rider are the first things you will want to look at. The height of the bike needs to be just tall enough so that the rider’s feet can touch the ground.
