Despite what some may believe, the martial arts are not simply about Bruce Lee movies and karate kicks; in fact, they comprise some of the oldest sports in the world, dating as far back as 600 BC. lt may be surprising to learn that more people in the UK participate in the martial arts than in rugby, cricket or even football.

As such, the martial arts may now be considered more of a culture than simply a sport; drawing on a rich and varied history, inspiring an entire realm of films, Fashions, products, events and programmes - the martial arts have an enthusiastic and dedicated following.

Martial arts special

Perfect for the martial arts enthusiast, novice or champion, the Seni08 Martial Arts Experience is returning this month for the tenth year running. Staged at ExCeL London, Seni08 is the biggest martial-arts- themed festival and expo in Europe, and is set to draw visitors From far around. An exciting fusion of demonstrations, shows, exhibitors, trade stalls, themed zones and seminars, nothing has been left out of thlis spectacular martial arts extravaganza.

Particularly exciting this year is the arrival of the OIympic area, whlich will focus on all the Olympic 'fight-sport' arts and a special Olympic Youth Zone, in association with the Olympic Borough, Newham. The 2012 Olympic Games is one of doe most exciting upcoming events for the city and, with 2008 an Olympic year too, Seni08 is keen to emphasise the positive impact the Games will have in London and the excellence shown in the martial arts arena.

Martial arts Tournament

Seni08 is proud to host a fencing tournament headed up by 01ympic fencer Linda Strachan, a Commonwealth Games medal winner, Olympian and seven-times British fencing champion. Competing in individual and team events at the Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992 games, Strachan Eamously doubled for Madonna in her fencing sequences for the Bond movie Die Another Day and will be helping to promote sporting excellence in the field of martial arts and in the context of the 01ympic Games 2008 and 2012.

The Bruce Lee Zone is anticipated to be one of the highlights of the show; dedicated to the memory of the martial arts film star, this themed zone will honour the 35th anniversary of his death alongside a special Bruce Lee Museum unique to the UK.

Over 150 exhibitor stalls will allow visitors to try before they buy from some of the world's leading sports braids-. Six themed zones, a unique film festive and MMA, boxing and Thai-boxing showcase snake this a jam-packed event for any matial arts fan. For those looking to get serious about their sport, information, advice and products are available in the areas of nutrition, fitness, training and complementary therapies.
