Metro Ethernet over Fibre Internet Technology

Metro Ethernet over fibre is all about allowing the end user to experience fast internet speeds. Today, it is currently the fastest connection technology around. It is the newest form of data transmission technology for accessing the internet. The development cycle of this technology goes way back to the 1980s, with the introduction of the IEEE 802.3. Over the years, we have seen that standard improved. For example, when this technology was first introduced, it referred to speeds of up to 10 Mbps.

In the beginning Ethernet connections were completed using a coaxial thicknet cable. This cable was rigid and stuff, very difficult for you to handle. The thinnet wiring was the next to be developed, this wiring was much thinner, and delivered greater speeds. The twisted-pair wiring was the next to follow, which was able to deliver even faster speeds. But it had its limits which were due to cross-talk issues and magnetic interferences as the speed of data increased.

These problems were later solved by the use of unshielded twisted-pair and fibre optic wiring. This technology is very consistent, able to transfer data at speeds as high as 10 gigabits per second; this makes it over 100 times faster than its non-fibre counterpart.

In order for Ethernet over fibre to be installed, it requires a great deal of money. The use of it can only be justified by high traffic data users. Even companies that are already connected to the net with cat 6 or cat 5 connections may have a hard time justifying using this cable connection type.

The speeds that you are able to obtain on an Ethernet over fibre line are considerable faster than what is possible on a broadband line, regardless of whether that broadband line is satellite, cable or wireless.
