Nurses and Bandages
The most essential nurse supply is a pair of scissors. Scissors are essential for bandaging patients and should be included in any nurse's equipment. When changing and applying bandages nurses will need scissors to remove the bandages and get the right length for the bandage after applying the bandage. A pair of bandage scissors will usually be easy to use and small enough to not be a hindrance while working.
Bandage Materials
Bandage material -- A variety of bandage materials can be used to cover wounds to keep them clean, to provide pressure to help stop bleeding, to cover an injured area so your pet doesn't lick or scratch at it, to act as a temporary tourniquet or muzzle (even docile animals will snap hard if in pain), or to stabilize or protect a body part.
- 1 roll cast padding or soft bandage
- 1 roll adhesive tape or "sticky" bandage
- 1 roll "Vet Wrap"
- Gauze Squares
- 1 roll gauze (can be used for tourniquet, muzzle)
Lymphatic drainage bandages
When lymphatic drainage is complete, the affected limb is bandaged with short stretch bandages. These bandages differ from the common "Ace" bandage which applies constant pressure. Ace bandages should never be used when treating lymphedema. Short stretch bandages have an active as well as a resting phase, so they do not apply continuous pressure like the Ace bandage. The resting phase is important to healthy circulation.
Bandages for eczema
Medication is applied to the affected areas. Bandages which have been wet with either warm water or a warmed moisturizing agent are wrapped around the affected area.
Dry bandages are then wrapped over the wet bandages as a way to seal in moisture.
CONCLUSION
When attempting to tie a bandage always remember there should be a good amount of pressures applied to the wound. A good Bandage wil stop the bleeding and provide comfort to the wounded.
