Introduction to Back Pain
Disorders of other parts of the body, particularly the lungs, kidneys and female reproductive organs can also cause backache. Most back pain is neither severe nor life-threatening, and can be treated adequately at home. However, since pain anywhere in the back can be a symptom of a serious disorder, it is important that you have some idea of what might be causing your back pain, so that you can decide what remedies to take.
Back Pain universally
Almost everyone has had back pain at one time or another. The costs of treatment and lost wages and productivity are staggering. If you haven't suffered from back pain consider yourself lucky. With headaches the number one aliment, back pain comes in at number two and is the most common neurological disorder in the U.S. Back pain comes from a variety of sources ranging from a slipped disc to a simple muscle strain. Overuse is another common cause.
Back pain who it affects
Back pain affects 80% of Americans at some time in their lives. It comes in many forms, from lower back to neck pain to sciatica. Back pain is not a diagnosis, rather it is a symptom of an underlying problem.
There are warning signs that may indicate a problem that needs immediate evaluation: Your back pain persists beyond a few days or awakens you at night. You have difficulty controlling your bowels or bladder. You have a fever, chills, sweats, or other signs of infection.
CONCLUSION
The problem with back pain is that there are so many causes, which means that it generally affects people of all demographic groups with varying degrees of severity. In general, back pains can be classified according to its origin (nerve, muscle, bones or joints) and the severity of the pain (either acute or chronic, depending on the length of time). Acute back pain can occur anytime and go away by itself, usually lasting no more than a few days to a few weeks.
