Autism in adults
The adult autism syndrome does not have an explicit definition, yet we enumerate the present general self-examination method here. If the result indicated that you have three items at least, then you might have to be careful! You perhaps already suffer from the new city syndrome: "Adult autism"!
To test if you have adult autism:
1. Have little interest to collective activities, does not get on well with others, cannot sympathize with the happiness of collective activities.
2. Lack of social communication skills, not good at using facial expression, hand signals and postures to communicate with other people.
3. Like to keep to self- seal, lack of emotive reaction and observation to the outside world.
Autism symptoms
An autism symptoms checklist should be something with which every new parent is familiar because autism is more prevalent than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It is also four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism strikes 1 child out of every 150 children, and since there is no cure, it is essential to know what symptoms an autistic child exhibits.
The challenge of autism is that it involves a broad range of disorders, called autism spectrum disorders or ASD, ranging from mild to severe. All autism spectrum disorders reveal deficits in social skills, communication, and interests and behavior.
Diagnosing Autism
It is very difficult even for specialists to immediately diagnose autism. These symptoms mostly appear when the child is about 3 years old. Most parents and teachers keep watching the child silently in the hope that the symptoms he displays are not those of ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorders. They fail to realize that catching this disorder early and treating it early solves most of the problems for the child in his later life.
CONCLUSION
Though autism was first discovered and diagnosed as early as 1943, some aspects of this disorder still remain a baffling mystery for experts. Now, autism and its spectrum disorders are known to have spread out to as many as 5,00,000 families all over the United States of America alone! Autism Awareness is an organization that aims to tackle this problem and extend help to both the victims and their families.
