Business Analyst
Business analysts have come into great demand in recent years. Since BA's require a great deal of logical reasoning and technical prowess, certification of BA's has become a pressing concern for organizations in need of such talents. Business Analyst certification courses, books, and exams have grown to fill that gap.
Analyst and a broker
It's important to differentiate between a broker and an analyst. A stock analyst basically analyzes the stock market, predicts what it will or won't do, and predicts how specific stocks will perform. Keep in mind that it's fairly common for some brokers to also be analysts and vice versa.
Business Analyst and Systems Analyst
Business Analysis will require skills like Analytical Capability, Knowledge of Business domain/Business Scenarios, Documentation capabilities(usage of relevant tools like MS Visio, RUP models), Capturing of Latent business needs.
System Analysis will require a technical skill set in terms of expertise in technology platforms, Programming Languages, Understanding Program Codes and System Architectures.
Systems Analyst and programmers
In terms of systems development, during the 1960's and early 1970's you were either a Systems Analyst or a Programmer. Period. At the time, there were substantially more analysts than programmers (at least a 2:1 ratio).
This was due, in part, to the fact that computing was just coming into its own in the corporate world and there were still people around who could look at systems in its entirety. However, there was a screaming need for people to program computers and, as such, this became the boom years of programming.
CONCLUSION
Why does nobody come out and say to the public that Financial Analysts are a bit like fortune tellers? Probably because instead of tarot cards, they have fundamental analysis or some other analysis that they use to predict how the stock market would react that look scientific. How about the fact that each year, when you go back to their past predictions, it is sometimes even less than a 50% success rate?
