Why You Should Consider Becoming A Forensic Accountant
Do you like to read books such as Sherlock Holmes? If you answered yes to this question, then you may make the ideal candidate for a forensic accountant degree. If you answered no to this question, then maybe working as an ordinary accountant is more to your liking. Continue reading to find out what other criteria should also posses.
1. Education
This is a requirement that you must have. You need to graduate with a Master’s of Bachelor’s in Accounting and then pursue a CPA, followed by a CFE or CR.FA. It’s advisable that the school that you graduate from is forensic accounting accredited, that way you can be sure that it complies with national standards.
2. Experience
You should consider challenging yourself by applying for employment with the CIA, FBI, Department of Justice, and Treasury Department and so on. It’s at these places that you will learn and see the most. The type of experience that you will gain from these places will be fruitful and invaluable to your future career.
3. Detective-minded
Financial detectives are another term used to describe forensic accountants. Hence, it’s up to you to train yourself in order to act and think like a detective. Learn from watching CSI and reading Sherlock Holmes.
4. Communication
Many people believe that accounting students tend to be deficient at communicating. The sad truth is that it’s a fact. As someone who works as a forensic accountant, you will be required to testify and communicate in court. Hence, it’s in your best interested to improve your communication skills so that you are able to convey complex information in a way that your average individual can understand.
